The Global Ideas Institute is now recruiting volunteer mentors for the 2012-2013 academic year!

The Global Ideas Institute Mentorship Program will act as a multi-disciplinary learning experience for mentors and mentees alike. This year’s “real-world problem” will focus on addressing food insecurity and malnutrition in the Global South (see the “2012-2013 Challenge” section for more information). In order for high school students to successfully tackle this challenge, they will have to engage in learning from different areas including politics, economics, public health, management and cultural studies.

A mentor will work with a team of 5-6 high school students and help them create a strategy for the 2012-2013 challenge. Mentors will do this by guiding students’ intellectual development and assisting with readings, facilitating workshop discussions, facilitating online discussions, and answering student questions. Mentors will ensure that students are on track to creating a strategy for the 2012-2013 challenge. No background in food security, malnutrition, or public health is required.

The Global Ideas Institute Mentorship Program will allow mentors to develop leadership, management and communication skills. Mentors will also have the opportunity to attend the speaker series, and network with experts in the field of health and development.
